It is an honor and privilege to serve as President of Simulation Society of Nepal. We, Simulation Society of Nepal, are united towards a common mission of strengthening the health care training methodology to bring about strong health care workforce and ultimately strengthen quality of health care in the country through the approach of Simulation-Based Education and Research. We strongly believe in catalyzing changes through partnerships and collaborative effort.
The horizon and significance of simulation-based education and its integration in health care training has become even more evident with the current changes in the health care trends and needs, focus on patient safety and quality patient care. Recently, there are many changes in health care: changes in the demographics, pattern of diseases, new technologies; changes in health care delivery, increasing consumerism, patient empowerment and emphasis on effectiveness and changing professional roles. Besides these, there is much needed attention on the development/ improvement of knowledge and technical as well as non-technical skills like: teamwork, communication, leadership, decision-making and situational awareness even more than before. These bring about challenges for health care professionals which health care training practices should respond to with new approaches like SBE to ensure competent and confident health care professionals delivering quality patient care.
Simulation-based education (SBE)has been increasingly used as a powerful and effective tool to improve the quality of care and is regarded as the gold standard in pre-service and in-service health care training with the recent changes in health care education. With the integration of SBE, interprofessional team training into the pre-service and in-service training curriculum, we aim to ensure application of best principles in health care training to address the gaps in knowledge and technical as well as non-technical skills among the health care professionals. We are also extensively working towards generating evidence on the best practices of integration and implementation of SBE in health care education/ training.
I, along with my fellow members of the society and partners look forward to serving to this mission and movement towards strengthened training practices in pre-service and in-service health education and bring about strengthened health care workforce. I am very confident that with the support and efforts of all our partners and governmental bodies, we will definitely achieve our mission of strengthening quality of health care.
Thank you
Ms. Unisha Shrestha,
President
