Strengthening Maternal and Newborn Care through Simulation-Based Education and Mentoring in the Hospitals of Province-2

UNICEF and SSN has partnered together to implement the simulation-based education approach in selected high delivery volume hospitals in province-2 with the alarming maternal and newborn health indicators.

Objective of program:

To increase learner’s knowledge and skills on neonatal care, respectful maternity care and infection prevention to improve maternal and newborn health.

To review and update the National Medical Standard Volume III on Maternal and Newborn health.

Background of the program:

The program aims at increasing health care professional’s knowledge, skills behavior and attitude on neonatal care and maternal care using Simulation-Based Education (SBE) methodology and mentoring to improve quality of care in maternal and newborn health. The program is effective from November 2019- October 2020 and is implemented at Janakpur Provincial Hospital, Janakpur; Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital, Saptari and Narayani Hospital, Birgunj from Province-2, Nepal.

Major activities to be conducted:

The major activities that will be implemented under the program are as follows:

Coordination with provincial government, provincial health directorate, hospital sites

Developing experts on Simulation-Based Education

Low-dose high frequency simulation sessions for the health care staffs in the three project hospitals
